Pakistani Rupee May Reach Rs. 276 Against US Dollar by Late 2026, Say Market Experts

The Pakistani rupee (PKR) continued its steady performance against the US dollar on Wednesday, extending its winning streak to 208 consecutive trading sessions. The local currency closed at Rs. 277.82 per US dollar, posting a modest gain of three paisas in the interbank market.

The consistent appreciation reflects the relative stability the rupee has maintained in recent months, although currency traders believe the pace of gains is beginning to slow. As the exchange rate strengthens, achieving further appreciation typically becomes more challenging due to market dynamics and economic fundamentals.

According to market participants, many recent trading sessions have seen the rupee gain by only one to three paisas, while several days have ended with little or no movement. The trend suggests that the currency is approaching a more stable trading range, where significant gains become less frequent.

A currency trader told ProPakistani that if the current economic conditions continue, the rupee could strengthen further and reach Rs. 276 against the US dollar between September and October 2026. However, the forecast depends on Pakistan maintaining its existing macroeconomic stability and avoiding major external shocks.

The trader also cautioned that global geopolitical developments could alter the outlook. Rising regional tensions, fluctuations in international commodity prices, or disruptions in global financial markets could slow the rupee’s progress. In such a scenario, the exchange rate may remain above the Rs. 276 level until December 2026 or even early 2027.

Exchange rate movements are influenced by a wide range of economic factors, including foreign exchange reserves, inflation, import and export performance, remittance inflows, foreign investment, and monetary policy. A stable rupee often reflects improved investor confidence and stronger external financial conditions.

Pakistan has witnessed greater exchange rate stability in recent months due to tighter economic management, improved foreign exchange inflows, and efforts to strengthen fiscal discipline. While short-term fluctuations remain possible, the overall trend has been relatively consistent compared to previous periods of high volatility.

Economists note that maintaining currency stability is important for controlling imported inflation and providing greater certainty to businesses involved in international trade. A stable exchange rate can also help improve investor confidence and support broader economic growth if accompanied by sound fiscal and monetary policies.

Despite the positive momentum, analysts continue to emphasize that exchange rate forecasts should be viewed cautiously, as global economic conditions can change rapidly. International oil prices, geopolitical events, and shifts in US monetary policy remain among the key external factors that could influence the value of the Pakistani rupee.

As Pakistan continues its economic stabilization efforts, market participants will closely monitor domestic indicators and international developments to assess whether the rupee can achieve the projected milestone of Rs. 276 per US dollar later this year.
