Shehzad Roy pays tribute to frontline workers of Coronavirus in his new song

Shehzad Roy, a singer, and activist is known for using his musical talents to bring social and political issues to the public’s attention. This time he has produced a new tune that departs from his customary blunt satire. Maula Vey puts you on an emotional rollercoaster, exploring a love story set in Covid-19. With themes of love, sorrow, and helplessness – but this isn’t just another love song.

Roy’s song which features actor Syra Yousuf is a memorial to healthcare workers that died while protecting others during the pandemic. It tells one of the numerous untold stories of frontline workers who succumbed to the illness while trying to help others.

The song video, which is set in a hospital, has Shahzad and Syra as healthcare personnel isolated in separate rooms. The song takes you on an emotional trip. As they seek solace in one another while separating themselves from the outside world and battling their illness.

Many frontline workers had no choice but to distance themselves from their families and loved ones when the pandemic was at its apex. Some of them lost their lives alone battling the illness and never made it back.

Maula Vey is a lovely attempt to depict the doubt and longing that people feel when they are alone. Especially those whose heroic efforts are often unseen. There could be no better choice than Shahzad to convey this terrible tale of heroism. Maula Vey is a unique production in the love genre, directed by Ahsan Rahim and composed by Shany Haider.

Statement: Accusations of ethnic discrimination directed at the travel management of the Pakistan International Screen Awards (PISA) by musical group the Baluch Twins.

The management at PISA would foremost like to apologize to the Baluch Twins for the inconvenience they experienced by not being able to attend the PISA’21 show in Dubai on November 5, 2021. The Baluch Twins were one of five esteemed nominees in the Song of the Year category.

In light of the accusations made, PISA would like to elaborate that the circumstances were a result of the cancellation of the flight the Baluch Twins were originally booked on. Twenty-nine PISA guests were on two Lahore to Dubai flights that were cancelled. Despite all efforts, several of those people could not be adjusted on alternate flights and unfortunately, the Baluch Twins were two of them. Covid advisories, the T20 Series and the Expo traffic all contributed to the unfortunate situation.

PISA would like to strongly clarify that the situation was purely logistic and had absolutely nothing to do with racial discrimination, as was accused. The management at PISA respects all of its nominees, including the Baluch Twins, and will continue to acknowledge, celebrate and encourage their undeniable talent.

Masood Alam, creating Cultural Hybridity in Pakistani Music Industry

Masood Alam, a young music producer, composer and lyricist, is creating unique music experiences through his compositions. As Masood Alam explains through his compositions, recognizing songs that we know can happen very quickly, and it happens through a “simultaneous understanding of stacked, synced and layered combinations of sounds (timbres, instruments, melodies, harmonies, rhythms) and sung or rhythmic recitation of lyrics (language and poetic forms, in songs with lyrics or words)”.

Different music genres have different sounds that we associate with them, and contemporary music often mixes these different sounds together in new ways. Certain music genres are also associated with certain cultures, and thus can symbolically represent these cultures. The mixing of these music genres (with one sound that represents a culture, and another sound that evokes another culture) is a popular form of fusion and remix in contemporary culture.

Masood Alam’s core objective is to bring recognition to those upcoming artists who share the same passion and unfathomed love for the Art of Music and believes in the paradigm shift in the music industry of Pakistan. Masood Alam dedicated his entire work of line to creating unique music from pop, rock, Sufism and instrumental. Masood Alam believes in creating a parallel universe that embodies the feel of the character.

The opening season of 123 Check is receiving a tremendous response, the unique show is all set to continue its journey to explore Pakistan’s rich musical landscape. The first season of the PTV show went on air on 27 June 2021 with the focus on showcasing diversity and innovation through thirteen episodes, with 1 producer and over 50 musicians. Staying true to the core idea of a fusion music project, 123 Check will see independent, classical, folk and popular artists combine their creative energies in a rare live performance.

While Masood Alam is the mentor for the musical productions and his compositions have been roped in for this season. 123 Check truly exemplified the melodious symphony of diverse genres of music ranging from famous Pakistani pop rhythms, traditional tunes, modern western, folk and it promises to further amplify this magical experience for music lovers.

HBL PSL 6 anthem ‘Groove Mera’ released

• The anthem has been sung by Naseebo Lal, Aima Baig & Young Stunners, the music video features Shadab Khan, Sarfraz Ahmed, Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi & Wahab Riaz

Karachi, 06 February 2021: The HBL Pakistan Super League 6 anthem, “Groove Mera” has been launched today. The anthem will be playing on leading TV channels and will also be available on HBL PSL digital platforms throughout the 2021 edition of the most popular Pakistani cricket event of the calendar.

Continuing the rich tradition of entertaining HBL PSL fans with a new anthem for each season, “Groove Mera” refers to the swing and feel of the movements of cricketers. It refers to moments of finesse that one finds in the heart of every cricket match.

This year’s anthem also reflects the realities of the Covid-19 pandemic. As majority of the fans will be watching Pakistan’s biggest sporting event remotely, this anthem cheers both players on the field and their fans at home as they celebrate their groove!

The anthem is a celebration of Pakistan’s musical diversity. The mix of artists is particularly exciting as it represents artists from opposite ends of Pakistan’s musical spectrum. The anthem brings together voices from Pakistan’s rich musical landscape: regional folk and urban sounds of pop and hip-hop.

Singer Naseebo Lal is an industry veteran and cultural icon, whose grasp over regional tradition is acknowledged by fans and music critics across the country.

Aima Baig is considered the pop symbol of this generation, having voiced some of Pakistan’s biggest hits in the past few years. Alongside these two powerhouse female artists, the HBL PSL 6 anthem features hip-hop superstars, Young Stunners, who with their grounded voice and social outlook have gained an unprecedented online following.

The video, directed by Fida Moin, includes six leading cricketers who would be featuring for their respective franchises in the tournament, the players are Shadab Khan (Islamabad United) Shan Masood (Multan Sultans), Sarfraz Ahmed (Quetta Gladiators), Babar Azam (Karachi Kings), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Lahore Qalandars) and Wahab Riaz (Peshawar Zalmi).

Director Commercial PCB Babar Hamid: “The HBL Pakistan Super League 6 anthem ‘Groove Mera’ is the latest addition to the blockbuster anthems that the league has produced over the years. Each year we have endeavoured to produce top-quality HBL PSL anthems and all our previous anthems have made a big impact and have been received very well by our fans in Pakistan and abroad.

“This year’s anthem has been sung by the legendary Naseebo Lal and features the hugely popular star Aima Baig along with the young sensation Young Stunners. We are confident that the fans will appreciate the anthem and it will make them groove like the anthems of the past did.

“Meanwhile, we are fully focused and as always working around-the-clock with the sole intention of delivering another exciting and world-class edition of the HBL PSL which will once again provide rich entertainment through quality cricket with some of the biggest T20 stars in the world plying their trade at the National Stadium and Gaddafi Stadium.

“The fans in Karachi and Lahore that will be re-entering the stadiums after a year-long gap, will have a lot to look forward to both with in terms of the on-field action and ‘Groove Mera’ entertaining them in the stands!”

Naseebo Lal: “It feels great to be a part of the anthem because I have never done a song like this where I have enjoyed myself so much.”

Aima Baig: “I feel overwhelmed – it’s been an amazing journey and I’m really thankful for the opportunity. The vibe of the anthem is very street and urban with elements of festival EDM.”

Up and coming singer-songwriter and producer Haris Haroon has just released his latest song ‘Meherma’ on all digital platforms worldwide. It is accompanied by a heart touching music video.

Meherma is a soothing love ballad that features a blend of subtle rhythms and tones that come together perfectly to create a moving musical experience.

Lyrically, it explores the idea that each love is unique and original in its own way. And that uniqueness, if harnessed, is a powerful gift that helps create the perfect, most authentic expression of that love. In a world which is already saturated with love songs and poems, and all sorts of presents and tributes… a world where almost everything has been said and done in the name of love.. Originality and authenticity still remain the best gifts one can give.

The video follows the story of a girl who finds solace and happiness in small paper objects (origami), and has a deep emotional attachment to them because of the meaning they carry. This sentimental value of the origami and the reason behind it is unknown and completely alien to those around her. In the end, she is forced to leave it behind.

Haris Haroon is an emerging singer-songwriter and music producer hailing from Lahore, Pakistan. Ever since completing his education at Berklee College of Music, Boston, he has set up a studio in Lahore and writes and produces music for himself and other artists. His discography thus far includes pieces like ‘Putli tamasha’, ‘Saathi re’, ‘Tez Gaam’ (and others), all of which have been on the airwaves and received much appreciation. He also has a live act that features original and cover tunes in their repertoire. His band HH and the riot house where in the top shortlisted bands out of a total of 700 bands from all over Pakistan in Pepsi battle of the bands season 4.

Haris’ musical influence and writing is deeply rooted in the diverse musical and philosophical traditions of Pakistan, along with contemporary western styles and genres such as Rock, Blues, funk and Pop.

You can find his work on all platforms such as YouTube, Sound Cloud, Facebook and Instagram etc.

Taha’s latest song ‘Chal‘  is out now, based on a story of his friend, where he speaks about a toxic relationship of a guy with a girl who only approaches the man when she is intoxicated. The man is in love with her doesn’t mind this as he is insanely in love with this woman.

With a passion for songwriting and singing running through his veins from an early age, Taha Gurwara’s fervent lyrics and sparkling R&B melodies expose a truly sensitive artist whose soul-shattering vocals have the power to provoke a profound response.

In an interview Taha said, “This song is dedicated to all those who are in toxic relationship knowingly but couldn’t save themselves because love is and always was blind”.
