Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departs for Egypt to attend Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for Egypt to participate in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, a landmark diplomatic event aimed at finalizing a peace agreement to end the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The visit comes at the joint invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, who will co-chair the high-level summit. The conference seeks to secure an internationally backed peace framework that could bring stability to the region following months of escalating violence and political tension.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif’s attendance underscores Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people and supporting their struggle for self-determination. Pakistan has consistently called for a peaceful and just resolution to the conflict, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy over aggression.

The prime minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and senior cabinet members, reflecting Pakistan’s strong engagement in global peacebuilding efforts. Officials said the delegation would also hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.

The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit is the culmination of intensive diplomatic consultations initiated during the UN General Assembly session held in New York last month. It is expected to result in the formal signing of a peace agreement designed to halt the violence in Gaza and initiate reconstruction efforts for the war-torn region.

While Israel has opted not to participate, the event has drawn over 20 international leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and French President Emmanuel Macron. The global attention surrounding the summit signals the urgency of achieving a viable and sustainable peace in the Middle East.

The summit will take place on Tuesday morning in Sharm el-Sheikh, where negotiators have spent recent weeks finalizing the details of the proposed peace accord. Diplomatic observers see this as one of the most significant attempts in years to forge a unified global response to the Gaza conflict.

Pakistan’s participation not only highlights its role as an advocate for regional stability but also reinforces its position as a country committed to international cooperation and humanitarian diplomacy.
