Dubai-based ‘Coded Minds’ organizing its first-ever summer camp in Karachi

This is the first time a Dubai-based education company will be offering its top-of-the-line courses in Pakistan

Karachi- A Dubai-based global education company, Coded Minds, that offers iSTEAM (Innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) subjects,  is launching its Pakistan operations by organizing its first-ever summer camp in Karachi. With a vision to bring good quality advanced technology education at the grassroots level, Coded Minds’s first Summer Camp in Karachi is being offered at an affordable cost.

“We are very excited that we will be able to serve the education sector in Pakistan,” says Omar Farooqui, founder, and president of Coded Minds. Since it launch, in 2017 the company has grown rapidly in the Middle East and Asia.

“We are now officially registered in Pakistan and we aim to provide the best education to the young generation of the country so that they can play a crucial role not just for Pakistan but also at the global level,” Farooqui said.

“There is a major misconception that technology education is expensive. It is completely the other way round.  The price point of our first ever summer camp actually reflects the same. We believe quality education has not just to be affordable but also reachable to the grass root level.”

Farooqui, who has had meetings with President of Pakistan Dr Alvi and the Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood in February 2019, says that Pakistani talent can rule the world if they are provided with the right skills and education.

“It is so heartening to see that the government of Pakistan is committed to providing modern education to its students. We as an international education company are determined to play a role in this transformation,” he said.

“Coded Minds has plans to introduce global learning systems across the board in Pakistan- no matter what is your social and financial status,” Farooqui said.

The five-day Summer Camp will continue from June 24-28 in the North Nazimabad area and is being offered for a fee of PKR 2000 per student only.

The courses offered are Introduction to Programming, Scratch Jr., App Development. Children between the ages of 4-13 will be able to attend this course.

Each session will be 4 hours long and the course will end in 5 days.  Those who are keen to participate can write to pak@coded-minds.org

The Telenor Youth Forum’s 2018-2019 program concluded today at the dtac headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, where a delegation of 16 young leaders from 8 nations, including Pakistan, pitched their four services to Telenor Group and dtac leadership and experts from Plan International, UNICEF and the Nobel Peace Centre. Out of the four teams, AgriMatch was declared the winning team and received USD 15,000 in funding to implement their proposed service, with an aim to reduce inequalities in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goal #10.

Following six months of intense development work and remote collaboration spread across four nations, AgriMatch has won Telenor Youth Forum for their mobile service to equalise the agricultural supply chain and empower farmers currently in a vicious cycle of debt and poverty. The team’s challenge was to design a digital solution to optimize or increase sustainability of food production, ultimately contributing towards reduced inequalities in global health.

Farmers and middlemen will soon be able find, contact and rate each other through the AgriMatch mobile platform, if the winning Telenor Youth Forum team has their way. AgriMatch aims to pilot their service in Myanmar where more than 70 percent of the population relies on agriculture as their primary source of income, according to a 2019 Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report.

Pakistan’s TYF representatives included two very talented girls, Asma Akbar Ladak from Karachi and Maieda Janjua from Islamabad. Asma’s team Paanigar pitched a solution to solve the water crisis in Pakistan through enhanced access to clean drinking water by providing a one stop solution for all water related problems. Maieda’s group Team Walrus, designed a mental health ed-tech platform to raise awareness, create understanding and build resilience in teenagers.

I am sure it has been an amazing journey for all young delegates and it delights me that we share the passion of shaping a better future for our younger generations,” said Irfan Wahab Khan, Head of Emerging Asia Cluster and CEO Telenor Pakistan.

The Telenor Youth Forum kicked off during the Nobel Peace Prize week in Oslo in December 2018, where the 16 delegates were split into four teams, each with a health-related challenge to solve. From that point onwards, the delegates worked to develop their ideas, conduct user research, and prototype their services, leading them to the Bangkok finale. The teams also showcased their services in a digital exhibition which was attended by Telenor Group management and representatives from the Nobel Peace Center.

The Telenor Youth Forum is a global platform built upon the idea of bright minds working together to reduce inequalities. In collaboration with the Nobel Peace Center, the forum brings together young leaders from around the world to develop digital solutions that empower

Sharing his thoughts on the development, Aslam Hayat, Acting CEO, Telenor Microfinance Bank said, “We are glad to extend Easypaisa’s Retailer Commissions Disbursement Solution to support Haidri Beverages and Northern Bottlers. Easypaisa, with the help of its extensive network of agents across the country, will be instrumental in facilitating smooth and convenient commission disbursement. we will continue to build such partnerships in order to support interoperability and enhance financial inclusion in Pakistan.”

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Qasim Jaffery – Group CFO, Haidri Beverages Pvt. Ltd and Northern Bottling Co. Pvt. Telenor Microfinance Bank and Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited to Digitize Retailer to Distributor Payments
Telenor Microfinance Bank and Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited to Digitize Retailer to Distributor Payments

Telenor Microfinance Bank (TMB) and Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited (PTC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to digitize retailer to distributor payments. This understanding will go a long way in developing a safe, secure and robust cashless digital payments ecosystem for retail and distribution channels. Furthermore, in line with the bank’s financial inclusion goals, the MoU will eventually allow small retailers who lack access to credit to avail Easypaisa loans thereby encouraging the unbanked to become part of the formal banking system.

This project will be implemented in three phases: During the first phase, an implementation of a digital payments system shall take place for retailers and distributors; in the second phase, retailers will begin accepting digital payments from end consumers followed by the third phase in which Telenor Microfinance Bank plans to roll out a credit facility to eligible retailers.

Both TMB and PTC conducted a three-month pilot project in district Vehari near Multan, which proved to be successful in terms of realizing the immense value addition for both retailers and distributors. A key metric for success was the safety and security of the payments for distributors that led to increased transactions and a decreased exposure to the risk of cash handling. As a result, both institutions decided to extend the project for digitization of payments between retailers and distributors. The solution will eventually enable customers to digitally pay retailers via their Easypaisa accounts.

Commenting on the agreement, Aslam Hayat, acting CEO, Telenor Microfinance Bank, said: “This is an important occasion for us all, as we are aware that the digital landscape is shaping up to disrupt the way we do business. We are one of the pioneers of bringing innovation in the domestic industry and now aim to digitize the market for local players by acting as a catalyst for digital retail solutions in Pakistan”.

Syed Ali, Head of Trade & Activation, PTC, added: “Our objective is to help our business partners (distributors) and our customers (retail outlets) to overcome obstacles that hamper the growth of their business. In the pilot stage, this solution has helped us in securing their business transactions and increasing business throughput and providing peace of mind to sales reps”.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

Where does it come from?

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don’t look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn’t anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet.
