Two Pakistani Astronauts Selected for China Space Station Mission

Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in its space ambitions as two Pakistani astronauts have been selected for a future mission to the China Space Station, following the successful completion of the second phase of the country’s Human Spaceflight Program.

The development was confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday, marking a historic step forward for Pakistan’s participation in human space exploration.

According to officials, the selection process began with an initial screening phase conducted in Pakistan by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO). Shortlisted candidates were then sent to China, where they underwent extensive medical, psychological, and aptitude assessments at the China Astronauts Centre (ACC).

These evaluations were carried out in line with international human spaceflight standards, ensuring the candidates meet the rigorous physical and mental requirements necessary for space missions.

The selection of Pakistani astronauts for a mission aboard the China Space Station (CSS) reflects the growing depth of Pakistan–China cooperation in space science and technology. It also represents a significant leap for Pakistan’s long-term goal of developing indigenous human spaceflight capabilities.

Officials say further training phases will follow in China, where the selected astronauts will receive specialized preparation alongside international counterparts before final mission assignments are confirmed.

This achievement places Pakistan among a small group of countries participating in human spaceflight programs, signaling a new chapter in the nation’s scientific and technological progress.
