Passengers to be served free tea at airports in Pakistan

Airline passengers will now be offered free-of-cost tea at major airports across Pakistan.

According to details, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has decided to provide free tea to passengers at airports across the country. Free tea will be provided to passengers both in the international and domestic lounges.

The service will initially be provided to passengers traveling through the Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore airports. The project was being implemented on the directions of the Minister for Aviation, Khawaja Saad Rafiq.

In a statement, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson said that tenders have been invited from tea suppliers for the purpose. In three to four weeks, airports will start serving free tea to the travellers, he added.

A similar service had been introduced at the Skardu airport in 2016 in view of the unavailability of tea shops in the region.

Pak vs NZ: Babar Azam leads Pakistan to victory against New Zealand

Pakistan Saturday registered their second win in the ongoing tri-nation series in New Zealand as skipper Babar Azam powered his side by scoring 79 runs off 58 deliveries.

After choosing to bat first, the Black Caps appeared to be on course for a modest 147-run total at Hagley Oval before Chapman’s 32 off 16 balls, which featured three fours and two sixes.

Pakistan went clear in the series as they chased down the target, having beaten Bangladesh by 21 runs in the series-opener at the same venue on Friday.

The three teams are using the week-long tournament to prepare for the T20 World Cup in Australia this month.

New Zealand laid the foundation of their innings through opener Devon Conway (36 off 35) and captain Kane Williamson (31 off 30), although both struggled for timing during a 61-run stand for the second wicket.

It was another frustrating outcome for the accomplished Williamson, who has passed 50 on just two occasions in all formats over the last 18 months, a period that has encompassed 29 innings.

He was clean-bowled attempting a slog-sweep off spinner Mohammad Nawaz, while Chapman holed out to a slower ball from Pakistan´s best bowler, paceman Haris Rauf (3-28).

Pakistan are playing with the same squad that won against Bangladesh yesterday.

Speaking after the toss, skipper Babar Azam said they are expecting a better show from the middle order.

Won’t allow manipulation of exchange rate: Ishaq Dar

Newly sworn-in Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said strengthening of rupee value would be his top priority, followed by reducing the inflation and interest rates in order of priority, to revive the economy.

Speaking to journalists outside the ministry office, where he came after taking oath of the office, the fourth time minister for finance and revenue said nobody would be allowed to play with the exchange rate.

“This is not the right place where rupee stands at present,” he said, adding that he knew some speculators were involved in this game that they should stop forthwith. He said he was happy that speculators had already made corrections in two days and improvement in rupee value had reduced the debt worth billions of rupees. “The speculators should set their direction right. This is my top priority to strengthen rupee value. Then we have to reduce inflation and cut down interest rates because we have to revive the economy”.

He said central banks throughout the world had the role to make interventions in the market and there were standards to do that. Responding to a question he said it was big lie that PML-N government burnt dollars in the market to control exchange rate. “There were no dollars, how could one throw dollars,” he said.

6 more die of gastro, and other illnesses amid rising disease incidence in Sindh

As more than 78,000 patients showed up in health camps in the flood-hit areas of Sindh in the past 24 hours, disease outbreaks continue to be a worry in the province, where six more died of gastroenteritis and other illnesses.

According to the provincial health department, two died of gastroenteritis, two of pyrexia of unknown origin (PUO) — a condition in which a person has a temperature accompanied by more than three weeks of illness — and one each of myocardial infarction and cardiopulmonary arrest.

The department said in a daily situation report on Wednesday that various diseases had claimed 324 lives in the province since July 1.

Sindh, where floodwaters descending from the country’s north and hill torrents from Balochistan have converged to give rise to a health crisis, has seen thousands displaced by deluges and now being inflicted by various diseases, mainly water-borne.

With Pakistan’s already weak health system and lack of support, displaced families have complained of being forced to drink and cook with disease-ridden water.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted above-normal rainfall in August

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted above-normal rainfall in August this year in most parts of the country.

In its monthly weather outlook Overall, the PMD forecast above normal rainfall in northeastern Punjab, Kashmir, southern parts of Sindh as well as coastal areas of Balochistan during August.

Most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan may receive slightly above normal rainfall whereas Gilgit Baltistan may receive nearly normal rainfall during August 2022.

The Met Office has cautioned that heavy rainfall can trigger flash flooding in hilly areas of Punjab, AJK and KP, as well as urban flooding in plain areas i.e. major cities of Punjab, Sindh and KP.

“Due to extreme hydro-meteorological events over catchment areas, riverine floods can’t be ruled out,” according to the weather department.

“Above normal temperatures in high altitudes are likely to increase rate of snowmelt in the Northern Areas subsequently increasing the chances of base flow in the Upper Indus basin,” the PMD said in its weather outlook.

Sufficient water will be available for irrigation and power sectors during the forecast month owing to the wet spell.

Punjab Assembly’s deputy speaker Dost Mazari shown the door

Dost Muhammad  Mazari has been voted out from his office as deputy speaker at the Punjab Assembly in a no-trust bid against him on Saturday.

Voting on the no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker began in Punjab Assembly on Friday.  The voting result was announced moments after midnight. Mazari was removed with 186 votes.

The no-trust motion was tabled against the deputy speaker by PTI following his worsening ties with the party.

Mazari was criticised by PTI Chief Imran Khan and other party leaders for his ruling against the current Chief Minister of Punjab Pervez Elahi. The ruling rejected 10 votes cast by the PML-Q, depriving Elahi of becoming the CM and instated Hamza Shahbaz as the province’s CM.

However, the setback was momentary as the Supreme Court annulled Mazari’s ruling and instated the Khan-backed candidate, Elahi, as the CM.

Prior to the voting, empty ballot boxes were displayed in the House.

Since we are more likely to have sources written by “winners” designed to highlight why they were heroic in their victories. Sometimes what we hear or read is not entirely factual; the biasness needs to be recognized to escape the trap we are setting for ourselves.

Later, Ali Hameed in his sessionClash of Civilizations & Pakistani Youth explained that The Clash of Civilizations is a theory that claims that in the post-Cold War world, conflicts will mostly arise from people’s cultural and religious identities and how we as responsible individuals might overcome this conflict without contributing to it.

However, when there is a problem there is always an even bigger opportunity. In this session participants learned how to view a crisis through an opportunistic lens, to not give up hope but rather to find the silver lining and take action.
