Pound Moves Lower Against Pakistani Rupee as PKR Extends Gains Against Dollar

The Pakistani rupee continued its recent positive performance against major currencies on Wednesday, with the local currency posting another marginal gain against the US dollar in the interbank market.

The rupee closed at Rs. 277.20 against the US dollar on September 23, 2026, compared with Rs. 277.21 in the previous session. The latest move extended the rupee’s streak of gains against the dollar to 246 consecutive trading days, according to market data.

The British pound also moved lower against the Pakistani rupee during Wednesday’s trading session. The pound settled at approximately Rs. 368.82, compared with Rs. 369.71 a day earlier.

The rupee therefore gained around 88.56 paisas against the British currency in the interbank market. The latest rate puts the GBP/PKR exchange rate below the Rs. 370 level after the pound had traded above that mark during recent sessions.

Recent market data shows that the pound has been gradually declining from its September levels. The interbank GBP rate was around Rs. 374.32 on September 15 before moving lower in subsequent sessions.

The movement is significant for Pakistanis who deal with the British currency, including students paying tuition and living expenses in the United Kingdom, families receiving or sending remittances, and businesses involved in UK-related trade.

The rupee also strengthened against several other major currencies on Wednesday. The euro closed at Rs. 316.58, down from Rs. 317.04 in the previous session, while the local currency gained against the Swiss franc and Chinese yuan as well.

The dollar, however, remains the most closely watched currency for Pakistan’s financial markets. The rupee’s continued stability against the US currency comes after months of gradual improvement in the interbank market.

According to market data, the rupee has gained around 0.35 percent against the US dollar during the current fiscal year and about 1.05 percent during the current calendar year.

The latest exchange-rate movements indicate that the Pakistani currency has remained relatively stable against the dollar while also making gains against several other international currencies.

For the British pound, the current trend has brought the rate closer to the upper Rs. 360 range. However, currency markets can change quickly because exchange rates are influenced by international market movements, interest-rate expectations, demand for foreign currency and other economic factors.

The pound’s movement against the rupee will therefore remain important for individuals and businesses with financial commitments in the UK. Any further changes in the GBP/PKR exchange rate could affect the cost of education, travel, imports and other pound-denominated payments.
