The federal government has reportedly finalized a site for Islamabad’s upcoming Convention, Expo, and Exhibition Centre, a major infrastructure project aimed at supporting the city’s role as host of the 2027 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. Officials indicate that the proposed location is near the Bhara Kahu bypass, strategically chosen for accessibility and convenience.
Sources familiar with the plans confirmed that the government, in coordination with the Capital Development Authority (CDA), is reviewing a site near Malpur, close to the starting point of the Bhara Kahu bypass. The land is already owned by the CDA, simplifying acquisition processes and speeding up project timelines.
The site’s proximity to the Diplomatic Enclave is another key factor in its selection, as it ensures easy access for foreign delegations and dignitaries attending the SCO summit. Authorities have emphasized that logistics, security, and transport connectivity were top considerations in finalizing the location.
The Islamabad Convention Centre project is envisioned as a modern facility capable of hosting international exhibitions, conferences, and high-profile summits.
