Islamabad has launched a signal-free mobile command unit—a first-of-its-kind innovation—to monitor and coordinate Muharram processions and gatherings with enhanced precision.
The initiative, backed by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, reflects a high-priority approach to crowd safety and digital monitoring during the sacred days of Muharram. The mobile control room is capable of operating independently of mobile signals and is fully equipped with drone connectivity, real-time surveillance feeds, and inter-agency coordination tools.
State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry, alongside Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, conducted an inspection of Imambargah Asna Ashari in G-6, one of the central venues of Muharram observances in the capital.
Following the walkthrough, Talal Chaudhry informed the media that 1,762 police personnel, including 350 traffic officers, have been deployed across Islamabad. Special attention has been given to four major entry points where traffic will be tightly regulated.
In addition, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has been activated to monitor social media for hate speech or any content that could provoke sectarian tension.
Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi briefed visiting officials on the comprehensive security matrix, highlighting a sector-wise monitoring approach, CCTV coverage, and strong inter-departmental coordination. He confirmed that processions from Rawalpindi to Islamabad on 9th Muharram and return journeys on 10th Muharram will be safeguarded under a tight security perimeter.
Senior government officers including the Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner, DIGs, and SPs were present during the review, reinforcing the federal commitment to a peaceful Ashura.
