The Pakistani rupee continued its steady advance against major currencies on Monday, with the local currency extending its winning streak against the US dollar in the interbank market.
The rupee closed at Rs. 277.06 against the US dollar, gaining one paisa from the previous session’s close of Rs. 277.07. The latest improvement marks the 254th consecutive trading day in which the rupee has recorded a gain against the dollar.
The sustained stability has also drawn attention to the movement of the euro against the Pakistani rupee. Although the euro remains above the Rs. 300 mark, its value has moved noticeably lower compared with levels seen several weeks ago.
According to Monday’s market data, the euro was trading around Rs. 310.73 in the interbank market, down from Rs. 311.61 in the previous session. This represented a decline of about 88 paisa in the euro’s value against the rupee.
The latest movement means the euro is now considerably closer to Rs. 300 than the levels approaching Rs. 350 that had attracted attention in earlier periods. The decline reflects, among other factors, the relative strengthening of the Pakistani currency against several major international currencies.
The rupee has maintained a gradual upward trend against the US dollar in recent sessions. Business Recorder reported that the currency had closed at Rs. 277.17 on September 25 before improving to Rs. 277.06 on October 5.
Market data also shows that the rupee has strengthened during the current fiscal year. According to Mettis Global, the local currency has appreciated by around Rs. 1.10, or 0.40 percent, against the US dollar during the fiscal year so far. On a calendar-year basis, the rupee has gained around 1.10 percent.
The movement in international currencies is also influencing exchange rates in Pakistan. The US dollar began the week on a relatively firm footing internationally, while the euro remained under pressure amid concerns surrounding France’s fiscal position and political uncertainty.
For consumers and businesses, changes in the euro-rupee exchange rate can affect the cost of imports, international payments, travel expenses and other euro-denominated transactions.
While the euro has not yet reached the Rs. 300 level, continued rupee strength could keep attention focused on whether the European currency moves closer to that mark in the coming sessions.
For now, the Pakistani currency remains broadly stable, with the latest interbank data showing continued gains against the US dollar and a more notable improvement against the euro.
