Three gunned down at Michigan State University

At least three people were killed and five damaged after a gunman opened fire at Michigan State University on Monday night, as law execution swarmed the main campus in East Lansing searching for a lone suspect, police said.

Police replying to the shooting, which began shortly after 8pm Eastern time, found victims at both locations, Rozman told reporters at a televised late-night briefing about three hours later.

Hours after the first gunfire erupted, several campus buildings had been cleared and secured by police as officers swept the campus in search of possible additional victims and a single suspect, MSU police said.

IHC set to hear plea seeking Imran’s disqualification in Tyrian White case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has formed a larger bench to hear a plea seeking disqualification of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for allegedly concealing information regarding his alleged daughter Tyrian Jade White in his nomination papers for the 2018 elections.

The three-judge bench, headed by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, will take up the petition on Thursday (February 9).

In his petition, Mohammad Sajid — a citizen — said that Khan provided incorrect information while submitting his nomination papers for the general elections held in 2018.

The petitioner also said that even though the former prime minister has three children, he had mentioned only two in the papers and concealed the existence of his third child.

On February 1, the PTI chairman filed a plea to dismiss the disqualification petition against him submitted in the IHC for “hiding” his alleged daughter in the nomination papers.

The response stated that the IHC’s four judges had previously excused themselves from hearing the matter.

Won’t allow manipulation of exchange rate: Ishaq Dar

Newly sworn-in Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said strengthening of rupee value would be his top priority, followed by reducing the inflation and interest rates in order of priority, to revive the economy.

Speaking to journalists outside the ministry office, where he came after taking oath of the office, the fourth time minister for finance and revenue said nobody would be allowed to play with the exchange rate.

“This is not the right place where rupee stands at present,” he said, adding that he knew some speculators were involved in this game that they should stop forthwith. He said he was happy that speculators had already made corrections in two days and improvement in rupee value had reduced the debt worth billions of rupees. “The speculators should set their direction right. This is my top priority to strengthen rupee value. Then we have to reduce inflation and cut down interest rates because we have to revive the economy”.

He said central banks throughout the world had the role to make interventions in the market and there were standards to do that. Responding to a question he said it was big lie that PML-N government burnt dollars in the market to control exchange rate. “There were no dollars, how could one throw dollars,” he said.
