KARACHI: The Modern Hospital Group continues to expand its network of healthcare projects across Sindh. Following ongoing initiatives in Hyderabad, Gharo, Islamkot, Mithi, and Sukkur, the network marked a major milestone on September 6, 2026, with the groundbreaking ceremony for The Modern Hospital Trauma Centre in DHA City Karachi.
Addressing the ceremony as Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. S.M. Tariq Rafi, Chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) and former Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), commended the management on its 15-year journey from a modest OPD to establishing major healthcare and academic campuses. Highlighting Karachi’s population of nearly 30 million, Dr. Tariq Rafi noted that the growing gap between patients and quality healthcare remains a critical challenge. He praised the initiative, emphasizing that a dedicated trauma facility along the M-9 corridor in DHA City will play a crucial role in saving thousands of lives.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Modern Hospital announced that the upcoming Trauma Centre will feature 175 beds, while the main Hospital will house 325 beds. Additionally, the project includes a Medical College designed to accommodate 400 students.
The CEO emphasized that the trauma center will function as a comprehensive care facility, saving emergency patients from interior Sindh the long journey to central Karachi. He shared that the Hyderabad facility, inaugurated on August 14, has already treated over 17,000 patients. Outlining the expansion roadmap, he announced planned hospital inaugurations in Mirpurkhas on March 23, 2027, and Gharo on August 14, 2027, followed by the formal opening of the DHA City Trauma Centre on March 23, 2028.
The CEO expressed deep gratitude to the guests who attended despite citywide traffic challenges. He extended special thanks to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) leadership—including Administrator DHA Karachi, Brigadier Muhammad Kashif Naeem, and Air Commodore (R) Shabbir Ahmed Khan—for allocating a prime site in DHA City.
Earlier, Col. (R) Dr. Sohail Abbasi, Director Operations, welcomed the attendees and paid tribute to the armed forces on Defence Day. He noted that just as the armed forces protect the country’s borders, healthcare institutions must stand firm to safeguard the health and well-being of its citizens.
