Ubisoft Confirms Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake Is Officially in Development

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that a remake of the fan-favorite pirate adventure Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is currently in development. The confirmation follows years of speculation and rumors among gaming communities about the return of one of the most popular titles in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

The announcement was revealed in a message sent to members of the press outlining the future roadmap for the long-running Assassin’s Creed series. In the communication, Ubisoft briefly referenced the Black Flag remake while also hinting at additional projects currently being developed under the franchise.

Among those projects are a future cooperative Assassin’s Creed title and the upcoming series being produced for Netflix. The streaming adaptation is expected to expand the Assassin’s Creed universe beyond gaming and bring the franchise to a broader global audience.

During the announcement, Ubisoft referenced the iconic phrase associated with the series: “Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.” The company used the quote while acknowledging that some of the rumors circulating in recent months were indeed accurate.

The publisher also teased fans with a cryptic message encouraging them to “keep your spyglass on the horizon,” a clear nod to the pirate theme that made Black Flag one of the most beloved entries in the series.

Originally released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag quickly became a standout title within the franchise due to its unique blend of open-world exploration, naval combat, and pirate storytelling. The game follows the journey of the charismatic pirate captain Edward Kenway as he navigates the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy.

Players were able to explore a vast open world featuring tropical islands, bustling colonial cities, hidden coves, and dangerous naval battles. The title’s innovative ship combat mechanics and open-sea exploration set a new benchmark for the series at the time.

Industry analysts believe the remake could bring major technical upgrades, including modern graphics, improved gameplay mechanics, and enhanced open-world systems designed for current-generation gaming platforms. Ubisoft has not yet confirmed specific gameplay improvements or release platforms, but expectations are high among fans.

Remaking Black Flag also fits Ubisoft’s broader strategy of revisiting successful titles while expanding the Assassin’s Creed universe through new stories, media adaptations, and multiplayer experiences.

Over the years, Assassin’s Creed has evolved into one of the most recognizable gaming franchises worldwide, with dozens of titles exploring different historical periods and settings. A modern remake of Black Flag could introduce the pirate adventure to a new generation of players while allowing longtime fans to experience the story with updated technology.

More details about the remake, including development timelines and gameplay features, are expected to be revealed in future announcements as Ubisoft continues to expand the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
